Home care workers will very well know how many people we care for in the community are affected by dementia, and we want to be able to deliver the best care we can but also help national charities to raise much needed funds.
This year one of our Care coordinators, Hannah Scott, wanted the Apollo Care (West Wirral) team to take part in some activities to support dementia care and do our part to raise funds and awareness. Hannah has already become a Dementia Champion this year and has been delivering awareness courses to staff and to the local community which have been a huge success!
In November Hannah decided she would like the care team to take part in Alzheimer’s Society’s Elf Day on 5th December. When she asked me about it I thought it was a great, fun idea to get the team together and build relationships as well as help raise funds for a deserving charity.
All of our staff were invited to dress up as an elf and pop into the office to take part in some fun games and buy a slice of cake for a donation towards the fundraising. Our care coordinators Hannah Scott and Emily McGuffie baked the cakes (which were delicious) and Senior carer Debby Frost and care assistant Zoe Mackay went and sold cakes at our local community centre who kindly let us have a free table at their daily food sale.
We were really pleased with the efforts the care team and members of the community made to dress up and give donations and in all we raised £222.92!
Our office was transformed in to the Elfie sELFie station and lots of photos were taken throughout the day – all in all really successful day which we hope to repeat annually.
